On Bullies

Musings from the Dean's Office
The Brothers Judd cite an article on bullies. The article suggests treating bullies as sick people, instead of being the pushy, deep down cowardly assholes they really are. There IS some talk about the victims, but its obvious that the bullies are not evil, just psychologically scarred and need counseling.

Yeah. Riiiiight.

My parents divorced in an age when divorce still had a bad name, and due to that, and being in a church school, I was a victim of bullies. I was fortunate enough to have a mother with fire in her belly, who told me she'd whip the tar out of me if I bullied anyone, AND she'd whip the tar out of me if I tolerated being bullied. Thus, I never started a fight, but usually never finished one because the bullie's pals ran for help the moment the unexpected fight that resulted began going against the bully.

For some reason, my school had an awful lot of bullies.

But, I NEVER ever fought the same bully twice.

But now-a-days, that healthy bit of catharsis is denied our children: There's zero tolerance for responding to bullies, but never for the bully himself. Not surprisingly, this mirrors precisely the attitude loopy leftist liberalism takes when it comes to agression: The initiator is sick and needs our help and compassion, but RESPONDING in self defense is intolerable and unacceptable.

Sound familiar?
