MoveOn's Bush==Hitler Ad

Alert from the Dean's Office

Everyone by now should have heard of an entry in MoveOn.org's contest for political ads attacking President Bush, that blatantly equates our President with Hitler (and not incidentally, the Amercian public to the Germans who voted for the vile dictator).

However, please go immediately to this post at Rantburg and read the first comment by "True German Ally", a frequent contributor who hails from Germany. He's puzzled, because the translation provided by MoveOn.org is wrong!

TGA, as he's known at Rantburg, has long been an astute commenter there, and has convinced me, by his posts, that he is an intelligent German patriot in every good sense of the term: one who supports his country best by being a loyal follower and supporter when its in the right, and a rational sympathetic critic when its in the wrong. There's such a thing as constructive criticism, and destructive criticism, and the Left in the United States delights in delivering the latter, styling itself as virtuous by pretending their verbal acid is the former.

"My Country, right or wrong!" is short, snappy, and idiotic: No nation is served by blind patriotism, any more than a blind man prefers to remain blind when given the option to see. That attitude leads to wars.

"My country, may she be always be in the right. If in the Wrong, to be put right." is a sentiment that can be embraced by all patriots in all nations everywhere, and will eventually lead to true peace among reasonable men.

The emphasis, of course, being on "reasonable".
