Tamar at Israpundit has a sobering article on the push for a new Palestinian state.
2003 will be remembered as the year the Likud party in Israel adopted the "Unilateral disengagement--Gaza first" plan that had been the Labour party platform in the last elections. Though rejected by the Israeli public, the plan has now become "our only hope for peace" according to the Israeli Government of Ariel Sharon.Ultra-Leftist serial loser Yossi Beilin and a coalition of defeatists, anti-Zionists, and ex-communists have come up with another "only hope for peace" plan-------this one with the sober-sounding title of the "Geneva Accords".
Both plans offer the Palestinian terror-meisters instant Statehood, unconditionally, and in the case of the "Geneva Double-cross", er, I mean "Accords", foreign troops will be deployed to defend the PLO state from the neighbourhood bully that is Eretz Israel.
President Bush has promised an International Conference: Convened by Quartet, in consultation with the parties, at beginning of 2004 to endorse agreement reached on an independent Palestinian state with provisional borders and formally to launch a process with the active, sustained, and operational support of the Quartet, leading to a final, permanent status resolution in 2005, including on borders, Jerusalem, refugees, settlements; and, to support progress toward a comprehensive Middle East settlement between Israel and Lebanon and Israel and Syria, to be achieved as soon as possible.
She uses the "Read more" feature of the site with great impact: you click on it, and its several pages of dated references to terrorist attacks.
Reynolds at Instapundit was right: The Palestinians are America's enemies.
I HAVE to vote for Bush this year: The War on Terror is too important to give to the Dim-o-crats. He's done as well as can be expected from the Pro-Life side of things. Alas, his policy vis-a-vis Israel is totally screwed up, and is going to cost him, and us, dearly in the end when the Divine Protector of Israel steps in to enforce his covenant promise given in Genesis 12.
Scribe this into your brain if you want to prosper in this world and the next: As sure as the Laws of Nature work when the right pre-conditions are met, so God keeps His promises when you trigger the right pre-conditions. I don't just believe that: I BANK on it, I PLAN on it, and I COUNT on it. When you're on the good side of it, you are truly fortunate.
And when you're on the bad side of it, you are truly f*cked.
I believe the IDF is a true defensive force, and so I regret any attacks on them that result in casualties and fatalities. However, they ARE an army, complete with uniforms, rules of engagement, with a clear line of authority reaching to the Civilian Government of Israel: It's their job to be the human wall between the enemy and the civilians they protect. Thus, attacks against them are not properly termed "terrorist" acts.
"Terrorism" is a deliberate targeting of civilians, and those who commit such acts are Terrorists, plain and simple. This doesn't count if civilians are incidentally wounded or killed while attacking a legitimate military target. Thus, I never did consider the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11 as an act of terrorism, but an act of war. The Terrorism in the Pentagon attack was in the use of a jet full of civilians. The targeting of the Towers was terrorism, no doubt about it there.
I've outlined before my demands of the Palestinian fighters, if they want to get my respect and earn their legitimacy: Cease all attacks on civilians, concentrate all attacks on the IDF, and wear a clearly identifiable Uniform or armband to distinguish yourselves from civilians. As it is, they do neither, and are terrorists AND cowards.
Posted by ptah at January 1, 2004 07:20 AMBush has been consistent on something else too: he's told the Palis that they have to crackdown on their terror groups first. Now, he hasn't taken the final step of saying, "OK, that's enough chances, the Israelis can handle the problem." I suspect that won't happen until he has things in Iraq under enough control to free up some troops.
