The New Joan of Arc

Miss Sabine Herold of France snorts at being called her country's new Joan of Arc, but there's no denying she's just as effective in kicking over the beehives and upsetting the status quo. Here's an account of her recent visit to Great Britain. Link courtesy of Rantburg. Thanks also to a commenter there for this link to her picture. Score one for the Telegraph for accuracy in describing her.

Personal note: Famous American author Samuel Clemens, writing under the pen name of Mark Twain, totally despised the French long before it became fashionable. However, he wrote, under a third pen name that I cannot recall, a series of stories in a magazine that later became the book "Joan of Arc". It is not intended to be the most authoritative biography of the young woman, but I have never read a more reverential one. I would think he would approve of Sabine.

The French. When they're good, they're very very good.

But the majority just aren't right now.

[edit-Thanks to The Rantblogger for more links to Sabine, here and here.]

P.S. Is it just me, or am I the only one who thinks the name "Sabine" so incredibly sexy?

In my mind, names like "Portia" and "Jessica" are brainy, but "Condolezza" is getting up there in terms of both "brainy" and "sexy", so far being the #1 candidate name to suggest for my first Granddaughter (as if the world will last long enough for me to HAVE a granddaughter.)

Twain also "rated" mankind... the bottom three were Congress, the savages, and the French. He hated the fact that they have wasted themselves, and their heroic figures and numerous achievments, in gutter-level politics, religious pogroms, and petty jealousy. Sam is as good as it gets at getting it right.

Re: sexy
Adding brains and straightforward gumption bumps a woman's sexiness quotient - no matter what her looks! Sabine and Condi do it with simple honesty and a touch of self-deprecation - it definitely works.

May Sabine stay her course and avoid being co-opted by the usual suspects. She might just be the last hope for France.

this is short and stupid
[P: your comment or the article?
The jealousy you manifest is palpable. Dry up and go away.]
